Why choose Celtic Trails 4x4?
Celtic Trails 4×4 provide an excellent way to explore the extensive network of green lanes in Wales. With an experienced guide by your side, you’ll access the finest routes in the area, ensuring that your journey is both legal and suitable for your vehicle. Responsible greenlaning is essential, as vehicles in rural areas can be a sensitive topic. At Celtic Trails 4×4 we strictly follow the Glass Greenlane Code of Conduct and the Countryside Code. Before each tour, all routes are pre-driven and verified for legal access, ensuring there are no traffic regulation orders in place. Our guide vehicles are equipped with recovery gear and first aid essentials, and we provide walkie-talkies for each tour vehicle for added safety. Choosing Celtic Trails 4×4 guarantees an enjoyable, safe, and hassle-free way to experience the countryside with your 4×4!
Can I go on my own?
One of the key rules of greenlaning is to avoid going out in a single vehicle. For your safety and security, we recommend a minimum of two vehicles. At Celtic Trails 4×4, you can connect with fellow enthusiasts in a small group setting, with a maximum of six participants, including the guide. This ensures a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone!
Can I take my 4x4?
Celtic Trails 4×4 welcomes all makes of 4×4 vehicles equipped with a high/low ratio transfer box and All Terrain / Mid Terrain tyres, standard underbody protection, and recovery points at both the front and rear as standard. Unfortunately, this means that SUVs such as Freelander’s are not permitted due to ground clearance issues on many of our routes.
Is there a risk of damage to my vehicle?
With thoughtful route selection and careful driving, it’s very unlikely that your vehicle will incur any damage. However, due to the nature of off-roading and variations in driving styles, we can’t guarantee this completely. The most common concern is light scuffing from overgrown shrubbery.
How Long Are the Routes?
Our routes typically cover 50 to 60 miles, which usually involves 7 hours of driving. We start around 9:00am and aim to finish around 5:00pm depending on the conditions. We meet at a designated location, typically close to the tour’s starting point.
Are the Trips Suitable for Children and Dogs?
Children are very welcome on our tours and can enjoy a fantastic experience in the countryside. However, since it can be a long day, we recommend bringing something to keep them entertained during the drive. Well-behaved dogs are also welcome, but they must be kept under control at all times, especially around livestock. Don’t forget to bring water for your dog and some pickup bags! Do we stop along the way? Yes, we typically take a break mid-morning, a 30-minute lunch break, and an additional pause in the afternoon. If you come across something interesting to explore or photograph, there’s always time to stop and enjoy it!
